Hun Sen Affirms Commitment to Enhancing Cambodia-Japan Relations

Phnom Penh, April 3, 2024 - Hun Sen, President of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King, convened discussions today at the 7 January Palace with Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia, UENO Atsushi, reaffirming Cambodia's commitment to bolstering ties with Japan.

During the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen reiterated his dedication to strengthening and broadening cooperation between Cambodia and Japan, particularly within the legislative sphere, for the mutual benefit of both nations and their citizens.

Seizing the opportunity, the former Cambodian Prime Minister extended his heartfelt appreciation to Ambassador UENO Atsushi for his exemplary coordination and arrangements during his visit to Japan earlier in 2024.

Hun Sen also expressed gratitude to the Japanese authorities for facilitating his meetings with his Japanese counterparts, including Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, despite no longer holding the position of Prime Minister himself.

In response, Ambassador UENO Atsushi conveyed warm congratulations to Hun Sen on his impending assumption of the presidency of the Senate, expressing hope for further strengthening of the Japan-Cambodia relationship across parliamentary, governmental, and societal domains.

The discussions between Hun Sen and Ambassador UENO Atsushi underscored the ongoing commitment of both Cambodia and Japan to deepening their longstanding friendship and fostering greater cooperation for the prosperity and well-being of their respective peoples.
